Abstract

The frequency of Clostridium difficile infection in hospital patients of gastroenterological profile with diarrhea syndrome was evaluated. The study group included patients with inflammatory bowel disease, chronic pancreatitis with excretory pancreatic failure, and a number of other diseases. To identify the infection, toxins A and B in fecal masses of patients were determined by immunoassay method. The detection rate of C. difficile infection in the study group was 40 %. The authors suggest inclusion of fecal examination for C. difficile toxins in the algorithm of survey of all hospital patients with diarrhea syndrome.
