Abstract

The article presents the results of evaluation of antihypertensive and lipid-lowering effectiveness of combined antihypertensive therapy using angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor Fozinotek (fosinopril) in the starting dose of 10 mg/day, thiazide diuretic Retapres (indapamide) at the starting dose of 1.5 mg/day in combination with diet or with the addition of Simvor (simvastatin). It is shown that the combination therapy in patients with dyslipidemic hypertension using ACE inhibitor and a statin can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. Despite equal antihypertensive effect, combination of fosinopril and simvastatin was significantly more effective compared to therapy with fosinopril in reducing the risk of major cardiovascular complications. Enhancement of clinical effect with the combination of ACE inhibitors and statins can be explained, most likely, not by the synergism of antihypertensive or lipid-lowering effects, but the synergistic angioprotective action.
