Resumo
Hidden or submucosae cleft palate (SCP) is a rare form of isolated clefts, which is characterized by damage to the speech-producing structures of the articulatory apparatus with intact mucous membrane of the palate. Patients with SCP require special attention from an otorhinolaryngologist, since this anatomical malformation leads to damage to the middle ear and significantly affects the hearing and quality of life of patients. We analyzed 16 patients with SCP, where the median (Me) age of diagnosis was 6.5 years (from 3 to 13 years), and in 62.5% of cases it was first suspected by an ENT doctor. In 14 patients (87.5%) during the initial examination, a significant decrease in hearing was already noted, in 21.9% of cases otitis media with effusion in the mucosal stage was detected, in 21.9% of cases - adhesive otitis media, in 18.8% of cases - chronic otitis with cholesteatoma. Cases of SCP demonstrate the need for otorhinolaryngologists and pediatricians to know this pathology in order to promptly carry out proper comprehensive rehabilitation for patients.
