Abstract

One of the problems in the work of general practitioners and primary care physicians is the issue of rational management of bedridden elderly patients with comorbid pathology. The main cause of prolonged immobilization of elderly patients are cerebrovascular diseases (CVD). Management of these patients should include a comprehensive therapy, influencing on the few causes of the pathogenesis of underlying disease. The research of influence of meldonium in the complex therapy on blood pressure (BP) and lipid profile as the main risk factors for CVD was conducted. It is shown that the use of meldonium in the complex therapy of long-immobilized patients with CVD enhances the hypotensive and hypolipidemic effects, accelerates the achievement of the target values of blood pressure, as well as contributes to more efficient and rapid reduction in total cholesterol levels mainly due to triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein.
