Abstract
The article deals with a very important problem - the incidence of diabetes mellitus in the population. Epidemiological research on the incidence of diabetes mellitus reveals that the highest number of patients are in the age group of 40-49. Furthermore, the actual insidence of type II diabetes among the employable population is 3-4 times higher than the registered one. The total number of diabetes mellitus patients in the Russian Federation has doubled in the last 15 years. We present the results of the recent decades of research on the etiology and pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus.
