Optimization of nursing work of preparing the stomach for esophagogastrodudenoscopy in emergency surgery

To compensate for the lack of medical personnel, it is advisable to expand the competencies of nurses, which will optimize the use of medical resources in the provision of medical care, including in urgent surgery. The purpose of the article is to propose a way to optimize the nursing work of gastric preparation for FEGDS in urgent surgery, based on clinical experience and training experience in the specialty «nursing», the results of scientific research in simulation conditions performed at Saint-Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University. As a result, an up-to-date description of the gastric lavage technique was proposed in case of suspected gastroduodenal bleeding, specifying the main actions of the medical personnel and confirming the possibility of independent performance of the procedure by paramedical personnel.
Conclusions. To increase the efficiency of the emergency surgical service in the face of a lack of doctors, it is advisable to expand the competencies and optimize the work of nurses, which will free up more medical resources to provide medical care. Placing a probe through the mouth and gastric lavage before emergency FEGDS is a simple procedure that can technically be performed by paramedical staff, which requires discussion in the professional community and legal legitimization.
