The article presents the diary records of Theodosius Grigorovich Dobzhansky, an outstanding Russian-American geneticist, evolutionist, and entomologist. He kept this diary in the summer of 1934, during an expedition to the north-west of North America carried out to study genetic variability of the fruit fly Drosophila pseudoobscura in natural populations and to determine the its distribution range. In these notes, Dobzhansky appears not only as a naturalist and a traveler, but as a person who is truly interested in the lifestyle, customs, and views of the people he met, as well as the cultural, social, and political situation of the places he visited. Thus, these records characterize him himself, both as a scientist and as a person.
