Antidepressant Resistance: Why It Occurs and What to Do About It?

Tsybko A.S.

Abstract

Antidepressant resistance poses one of the biggest challenges to modern neuropharmacology. Here we will try to consider the problem in terms of the serotonin system. What are its features and how can they cause therapeutic resistance? In addition, special attention will be paid to serotonin receptors, whose amazing biology not only shed light on the mechanisms of depressive disorders, but also promise to provide the key to the effective therapy of the latters.

The Evidence of Evolution of Ancient Elephants from the Chechen Republic

Daukaev A.A., Maschenko E.N., Abubakarova E.A.

Abstract

One of the most interesting events in paleontological studies on the territory of the Chechen Republic is the discovery of evidences of the evolution of the Pleistocene elephants. Already in the 1930s, several sites of the remains of ancient elephants were discovered in the vicinity of the city of Grozny. In 1968, the tusk of another fossil elephant was also found there. In 2010, the fossil remains of a representative of southern elephants that indicate an ancient stage in the evolution of elephants on the territory of the Chechen Republic were donated to Ibragimov Complex Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Grozny).

Archive of Data on the History of Carbonate Formation in the World Ocean

Lein A.Y.

Abstract

The article attempts to overview the current knowledge on the location and origin of authigenic carbonates in the ocean, which bind carbon from different sources and affect the mass balance of carbon and sulfur isotopes. Of greatest interest among marine authigenic carbonates are methane derived crusts and nodules in sediments near the cold methane seeps. By the early 2000s, a consortium of methanotrophic archaea and sulfate-reducing bacteria capable of oxidizing methane was found in anaerobic sulfate-containing ecosystems. This biogeochemical process results in a formation of a powerful microbial filter that reduces natural emission of methane, one of the main greenhouse gases.

Heavyweights in the World of Minerals: Rossovskyite, Ixiolite, and Other Tantalum.Niobates

Rastsvetaeva R.K.

Abstract

The new mineral rossovskyite (Fe3+,Ta)(Nb,Ti)O4 from the tantalum-niobate family was discovered in granite pegmatites of Altai Mountains in Western Mongolia. Topologically the structure of rossovskyite is analogous to that of ixiolite with the same cell-structure, but differs in cations ordering with a decrease in symmetry from orthorhombic one with the Pbcn space group to monoclinic with the P2/c space group. Although they display substantial common features, these minerals belonging to the tantalum-niobate family vary in cell size, symmetry, and cation ordering; some of them serve as a source of niobium and tantalum. This article describes the study and discovery of the mineral rossovskyite and describes related minerals of the tantalum-niobate family.

New National Park in the North.East of Russia

Khamenkova E.V.

Abstract

On December 12, 2022, the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation (No.2284) decreed the creation of the Chersky National Park named after A.V. Andreev in Magadan Oblast, one of the most famous mining regions in the world. Its area is more than 460 thousand km2 and about 10% (more than 50 thousand km2) of it is covered with “metastases” of placer gold mining. The geological “development” in the region is the most important factor in its advancement; however it also results in formation of unsightly lunar landscapes on the vast areas of the upper reaches of the Kolyma River. The development of the system of specially protected natural areas in the North-East of Russia and in particular, in Magadan Oblast is associated with the name of the famous geologist A.P.Vaskovsky.

The Best Friend of “Priroda”. In memory of Semyon Solomonovich Gershtein

.P.
