Причины низких потерь донских казаков в войнах Российской Империи

Аннотация

В статье рассматривается вопрос о том, каким образом в XVIII–XIX вв. донские казаки приобрели сохранившиеся до начала ХХ в. навыки ведения боевых действий с минимальными потерями. Подсчитано количество раненых среди донской казачьей верхушки и уточнён характер самих ранений, получено соотношение боевых потерь казаков и регулярных частей русской армии, достигавших иногда четверти и даже половины личного состава, во время Швейцарского похода 1799 г., Отечественной войны 1812 года и освободительного похода 1813–1814 гг., а также в ходе Первой мировой войны. Установлено, что наименьшие потери среди донского казачества несли сыновья офицеров, привлекаемые к службе ещё в подростковом возрасте. Наибольшие потери от холодного оружия были среди сыновей священников, которые выпали из системы казачьего воспитания в детстве, однако за счёт своей грамотности достигали более высоких чинов.
