Abstract

There was investigated the correlation of sex hormones with cognitive defects and affective disorders in patients aged 46-76 years with chronic cerebral ischemia, with the presence of a peptic ulcer and postinfarction cardiosclerosis in their past medical history. We measured the blood testosterone level in men and the blood estradiol level in women. Study of differential role of steroids in cognitive sphere and emotional status revealed significant values of testosterone in men as distinct from women: it turned out to be involved in the pathogenic response mechanism to stress, in the development of cognitive and affective disorders.
