Abstract

The article examines the role of hydropower as a tool of Russia’s geopolitical influence in Central Asia. It analyses the opportunities to use the region’s hydropower potential to strengthen Russia’s positions, ensure regional stability and address water and energy security issues. The paper covers current projects and initiatives, including cooperation with Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, as well as the challenges and competitive pressures that Russia faces. Particular attention is paid to the role of hydropower in mitigating conflicts, promoting regional cooperation and achieving environmental goals.
