This article, using new archival materials, characterizes the significance and role of the Grodno Regional Planning Commission in the economic modernization management system of Western Belarus from 1957 to 1991. The stages of its work are identified and the characteristics of each are analyzed. The content of the materials it prepared for decision-making bodies is presented. The significant role of this regional planning structure in drafting long-term regional development plans is demonstrated. It is demonstrated that such structures were necessary and quite effective under the administrative-bureaucratic system of the USSR at that time.
