Abstract
The Psychonevrological Institute is the first scientific research and higher educational establishment in Russia founded by V. M. Bekhterev in 1907 and named after him in 1925. Its purpose consists in scientific elaboration of disciplines investigating the psychic sphere of human being.
In 1920 the faculties of the Private Petrograd University were transformed into different higher educational establishments and since that time the Institute has been working as a scientific research establishment with its own clinical base. Today the Institute has 11 Departaments, which are taking care of patients of all age groups with psychonevrological disorders. There are 28 Professors and 56 Doctors of Sciences and Assistant Professors working here.
For the last 50 years, as the main theoretical model have been developed the Conception of Rehabilitation with its basic principle of synthesis of biological and psychosocial influences, and investigation of the quality of life of patients (on recommendation of the WHO). These investigations have brought a well deserved authority to the collective of the Institute due to the complex character of the approach to the issues under investigation, carefulness in carrying out the works and reliability of obtained results.
