Abstract. In the structure of children's disability, the nervous system and psyche disorders occupy a leading place. Consequently, the earliest detection of deviations in the neurological status and behavior of the baby becomes an urgent problem for both diagnosis and determining the forecast of the nervous and psychic development of the baby. The routine assessment of the neurological status of a newborn does not allow to overcome these problems, and its diagnostic and prognostic values are extremely small. In this regard, the standardization procedure becomes necessary, which implies a neurological inspection under the regulated conditions and using standard scales of evaluating the behavior of a newborn. In this work, the 4 most used schemes for assessing the neurological status and behavior of newborns are briefly analyzed - a scale for assessing the behavior of the newborn T.V.Brazelton (Neonatal Behaviural Assessment Scale - NBAS) (1973, 1984), neurological assessment H.F.R., 1977), assessment of the neurological status in the first year of life (Amiel-Tison C. et al., 1980, 1986), neurological assessment of the newborn (Dubowitz L.M.S. et al., 1981, 1999). Own studies are presented to create standard scales for the indicated purposes: screening scheme of assessing the state of the nervous system of the newborn (profile of oppression/irritation) (Palchik A.B., 1995), assessment of the neurological status of a premature child (Palchik A.B., 2008).
