Abstract
The book under review is the first publication of Russian translation of the monograph and articles by classic researcher of Russian-Scandinavian relations – Adolf Stender-Petersen. The book presents the complex studies of historical and cultural interrelations between Byzantium, Russia and Scandinavia in the 9th–11th centuries. The etymologies of Scandinavians found in Russian medieval texts are analysed in the mirror of special attention to the evolution of their meaning. The reviewer presents own version of the origin of the Monastery of Rhos(es) on Mount Athos in the context of the problematic under discussion.
