DIVERTICULOSIS AND DIVERTICULAR DISEASE

Puzanov D., Puzanova I., Polovinkin V.

Abstract

Diverticular disease of the colon is often asymptomatic, its marked clinical manifestations occur only during the development of complications, such as inflammation, abscess, or perforation. The symptoms of the disease are varied and nonspecific, which requires that more sophisticated diagnostic methods be developed. According to the magnitude of clinical manifestations and the severity of patients’ status, medical or surgical treatment for this disease can be both outpatient and inpatient. The current methods for the diagnosis and treatment of diverticular disease and its complications are reviewed.

POLYMORPHIC VARIANTS IN THE CYP3A4 GENE, CYSTIC FIBROSIS, AND THE RISK OF ADVERSE REACTIONS TO ANTIBACTERIAL THERAPY IN CHILDREN

Novoselova O., Kondratyeva E., Petrova N., Bikanov R., Zinchenko R.

Abstract

Chronic pulmonary infection is a consequence of impaired mucociliary clearance in cystic fibrosis (CF). Patients with CF receive long-term cycles of high-dose antibacterial therapy (ABT). A study of the causes of antibiotic resistance and adverse reactions (ARs) is promising in these patients. The impact of polymorphic variants in the CYP3A4 gene on the risk of ARs during ABT and on the predisposition to gram-negative infection was investigated in children with CF.

MIRIZZI SYNDROME-I: A CLINICAL CASE

Vinnik Y., Serova E., Stratovich D., Prusov I.

Abstract

Mirizzi syndrome (MS) is a rare, severe complication of cholelithiasis, the original morphological sign of which is the compression of the proximal part of the hepaticocholedochus, which culminates in the formation of either a stricture or a cholecystobiliary fistula. For the preliminary diagnosis of MS, it is necessary to remember its basic and additional criteria (clinical, instrumental, including ultrasonographic and laboratory). The preoperative diagnosis of MS is a very difficult task for surgeons and ultrasonic diagnosticians; its solution makes it possible to choose adequate diagnostic and treatment tactics and to avoid complications during surgery for complicated calculous cholecystitis.

Unlike the healthy children, those with SE were significantly more frequently diagnosed with functional diseases of the digestive organs, mainly biliary tract disorders and functional constipation. The findings indicate that it is necessary to rehabilitate preschool children with SE.
