Academician Nikolai Nikolaevich Priorov as one of the founders of domestic traumatology and orthopedics (in honor of the 140th anniversary of his birth)

Traumatology and orthopedics are the most important areas of medical care today. They have their founders, which include N.I. Pirogov, G.I. Turner, R.R. Vreden, V.D. Chaklin, V.N. Rozanov, etc. This list cannot fail to include another person who devoted his life to the study of traumatology and orthopedics — Nikolai Nikolaevich Priorov. The purpose of this study is to present the most complete information about the career of academician N.N. Priorov as one of the founders of Russian traumatology and orthopedics in honor of the 140^th anniversary of his birth. The materials were archival documents, scientific literature, books and articles. N.N. Priorov becoming a doctor of medical sciences, professor, head of the department of traumatology and orthopedics of several institutes, academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, honored scientist of the RSFSR, deputy minister of health of the USSR, founder of the Moscow and All-Union societies of traumatologists and orthopedists, a member of several foreign medical societies. One of the main achievements of Nikolai Nikolaevich is considered to be the creation of the Medical and Prosthetic Institute, which was named after him. For 40 years, Academician Priorov was the permanent head of this institution. Note the significance of N.N. Priorov as the chief surgeon in the hospital departments of the People's Commissariat of Health during the Great Patriotic War. Today, his experience in the field of military medicine is very relevant. He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Star and the Order of the Badge of Honor, and numerous medals. The article clarifies the biography of N.N. Priorov, on the northern expeditions to Novaya Zemlya, Vaigach Island and Yugorsky Shar, on the history of the creation of CITO. That’s distinguishes it from previous articles dedicated to the outstanding scientist.
