Abstract
Retrospective analysis of 120 and prospective analysis of 180 cases of coma demonstrated that isolated brain injury was not discovered. The acute period of coma is always accompanied by different specific and organ dysfunctions, progressing
alongside with an increase of coma extent. These changes may be interpreted as a syndrome of multiorgan dysfunction, whose
extent depends of the cause, degree and duration of coma.
