Abstract
The present lecture contains fundamentals of evidence based medicine; it provides a definition of its role in clinical practice. Wide-ranging material demonstrates that evidence based medicine cannot replace the art of healing and clinical thinking, but should serve for improvement of the quality and effectiveness of clinical practice.
