Abstract

The heritage of the Soviet Union, regarding special operations, should not be forgotten by our contemporaries. On the contrary, the best should be studied, improved, and the problematic aspects should be corrected. In the article, the author has made a historical digression to the emergence, formation and improvement of law enforcement agencies and special services specializing in special operations.

  1. Lev Davidovich Trotsky, Russian revolutionary, former People's Commissar of the USSR, founder of the Fourth International, was killed in August 1940 in Mexico. The murder was committed by an agent of the NKVD of the USSR from Spain, Ramon Mercader, introduced into Trotsky's entourage under the guise of his Marxist supporter. For the murder of Trotsky, Mercader was sentenced in Mexico to 20 years in prison. After serving his term, he was released in 1960, after which he moved to live in Cuba and the USSR, where he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
  2. Soviet special forces were used in combat operations in Afghanistan, Angola, Vietnam, Cuba, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Czechoslovakia, Ethiopia, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
  3. The unofficial name of the second special operations center is Zazaborye.
