Abstract
The purpose of the study is to analyze the problem of social integration in the context of historical development. The research methodology is based on the functional method and also includes the use of historical and comparative methods. Research results. The study shows various aspects of the problem of social integration, analyzes the main approaches to the study of social integration in socio-philosophical thought, reveals various ways of social integration in the context of historical development, reveals the difference between the mechanisms of social integration in traditional societies and modern societies. Challenges facing modern societies in the era of globalization related to new problems that hinder social integration at the level of national communities, nation-states are shown. It is noted that in recent years a trend towards deglobalization has emerged, however, the challenges of social integration at the level of individual states, associated with the globalization processes that took place earlier, have not been overcome, since the causes that give rise to them remain, in particular, migration processes, a single information space, and the economic interdependence of various states.
