This article considers sustainable development as a basis for regional security, taking into account the experience and practical steps of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to implement initiatives within the framework of a sustainable agenda. Ensuring the security of actors is impossible without establishing an appropriate state at the global level of the international system, as well as within its regional subsystem. This trend reflects the relevance of the topic. The purpose of the study is to identify the relationship between sustainable development and regional security, considering the experience of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, as well as to assess the role of this organization as an active actor in regional sustainable security. Methodology. This work is based on scientific and general logical methods of analyzing scientific literature, analysis and quantitative content analysis of the SCO statutory and program documents. Conclusions. This article presents various problems and challenges that the organization faces, as well as SCO initiatives aimed at achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, the advantages of the parameters under consideration in creating conditions for stability and multifaceted development in the region are noted.
