EVOLUTION OF THE ARCHITECTURAL AND PLANNING STRUCTURE OF SAMARA FROM THE LATE XVIII TO THE BEGINNING OF THE XXI CENTURY

Gromilina E.A., Samogorov V.A., Filippov V.D.

Abstract

The article dwells upon master plans of the city of Samara from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 21st century in the context of successive development. The most typical historical, socio-economic and natural-geographical factors that determined continuity of the city planning development during this period were revealed. The planning structure, architectural and spatial environment of the city, functional zoning of the territory and the features of the interaction between the historically established planning structure and the newly adopted planning solutions for the city development are considered. The stages of the formation of the most important element of sustainable urban development - the spatial planning framework - are revealed.

URBAN SPACE

PRECONDITIONS OF CHANGES IN THE ARCHITECTURAL AND URBAN BUILDING COMPONENT OF THE SOCIO-CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE CITY

Mokhova M.S., Teryagova A.N.

Abstract

Up-to-date studies carried out by sociologists, psychologists, political scientists, cultural scientists and other theorists who study society as a social system are often based on the issue on the revolutionary changes introduced by the latest high-end technologies into the processes of communication between people. Communicative, technological communication fundamentally changes the understanding of many processes and types of sociocultural relations. In the future, these changes will fundamentally alter the approach to the formation of the urban environment in general and communication spaces in particular. This paper presents an attempt to consider the impact of virtual communication on the city. The positive and negative aspects of these changes are considered and, ultimately, an attempt on the formation of a spatial communication model in the modern city is made. The options for a comprehensive assessment of the social quality of the urban environment are described. The authors’ classification of the communication spaces of the modern city became a foundation for a study aimed to identify potential locations of these environmental objects and systems. The hypothesis of a phased creation of hybrid spatial ensembles within the architectural units constituting the environment for various types of interpersonal communication, in the form of a synthesis of media technologies and urban planning is generated.

THE CITY & PEOPLE

HISTORICAL ENVIRONMENT IN THE CURRENT ECONOMIC CONDITIONS

Orlov D.N., Orlova N.A.

Abstract

The paper is devoted to the challenging issues of development and reconstruction of provincial historical Russian cities. Economic and cultural aspects are considered. A brief description of the features of the current period associated with the World Cup is given. The paper justifies the value of the background building as an element of the historical context that determines the integrity of the perception of monuments of architectural heritage and forms the environment of the historical city as a phenomenon of continuity of the historically emerging city. The insufficient depth of a number of reconstructive practices is characterized. This untenable approach to work with heritage is designated as «visualization», the predominance of external decorative approaches, «denoting and depicting», but not essential. The way to overcome these contradictions is outlined. The full development of an integral successive environment of the historic city is the launch of mechanisms for selfreproduction of urban space based on the reorientation of the focus of development projects from direct sales to long-term rent.

RESTORATION OF THE CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL BASIS OF THE TERRITORY, WHICH LOST CITYFORMING FUNCTION

Vologdina N.N., Tsatsyna D.E.

Abstract

Based on the study of the area that has lost the city-forming function, the principles and models for the reconstruction of the object, which has a unique cultural and historical basis and structure built into the town-planning framework of the city, have been developed. Attention is drawn to the lack of policies and relevant renovation programs for industrial areas that are in abandoned state. The result of randomness of the development of the territory by random functions, which lasted for decades, reflects the state of stagnation in addressing global issues of urban planning and regulation. The uniqueness of the object of reconstruction as a carrier of cultural meanings and an important transport and communication hub is revealed. This provision leads the authors to conclude that it is necessary to consider actions to preserve and use sign architecture as an imperative.

SPATIAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRUCTION IN THE PROJECT OF RECONSTRUCTION OF THE TERRITORY OF THE FIRST CASTLE IN SAMARA

Bakshutova D.V.

Abstract

The article proposes the approach to the formation of a spatial development envelope for the historically significant territory in Samara. A spatial envelope is understood as a three-dimensional model that defines the permissible building parameters, describing both the planning and height characteristics and the type of building, the fundamental volumetric solutions of architectural objects and complexes. The paper describes approaches to the formation of the envelope based on the planning and spatial characteristics of the built-up environment, presents the main provisions for the solution for the site.

CITY WITHOUT THE CITY

THE STUDY OF THE GEOMORPHOLOGICAL STRUCTURE OF A NATURAL OBJECT AS AN IMPERATIVE IN MODELING AND ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

Vologdina N.N., Alexandrova O.Y.

Abstract

The research is based on the study of the genesis of the geological structure, morphology of a natural object, embedded in such “structure” as time. Being an activity tool, philosophy is an important component of preserving the phenomenon of place. The loss of historical and informative artifacts of the environment resulted in the loss of territorial identity. Attention is drawn to the need to restore disturbed landscapes that have a negative impact on the development of urban structures. The paradigm of research, modeling and design of the territory and objects that have lost their natural, aesthetic and cultural essence is proposed. The concept of the method of historical genetic reconstruction as an imperative of research and modeling is introduced. An operating base is being developed for this purpose.

AXONOMETRY AS A METHOD OF ARCHITECTURAL FORMING

Malakhov S.A., Boranov S.S.

Abstract

The article puts forward a hypothesis of the architectural shaping method generally caused by the impact on the search process such as the used models and projections. The role of axonometric projection in the aspects of rational and artistic understanding of the architectural form is considered. Rational use of axonometry dates back several millennia, while its fate as a special artistic genre directly related to architecture is associated primarily with avant-garde experiments, primarily with Malevich’s Suprematism, El Lissitzky, Neoplasticism of the De Stijl group. The article highlights the transition from the rational application of axonometry to the artistic, and the resulting effect on this method of search modeling and, accordingly, on the spatial-plastic properties of the architectural form.

PHENOMENOLOGICAL ARCHITECTURE IN DESIGN TEACHING

Bazina A.N., Repina E.A.

Abstract

Anonymity of modern Russian urban design partly stems from the fact that architects and designers are not familiar with methods of creating a harmonious image that resonate with audience. The authors of the article focus on studying phenomenological architectural approach for better understanding of methodology applicable for designing human-oriented environment which will let people feel their connection with the world around. This approach to architecture design stands out among others as it consciously handles image categories. The study results enable the authors to create a theoretical model of sources of phenomenological architecture. This model is used as a basis for teaching approach focused on developing skills that are necessary for phenomenological urban design. The article also shows the results of practical application the abovementioned teaching approach.

BRIEFLY

MONOGRAPHY «COMPOSITIONAL METHOD OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN»

Malakhov S.A.

Abstract

The book is devoted to the method of work of the architect-master of the environmental form of the urban landscape. This implies that the tasks of the architect-master are different from the tasks put forward in the activities of the architect-author of creative concepts. The compositional method overcomes the distance between the models of abstract form and design models. The connecting role in the proposed method is performed by the model-mediators, models of the proto-object, which embody the most tactile-sensual experience of interpreting prototypes, cultural codes and the advantages of models of abstract form. The main goal of the method is to harmonize the shape of the urban landscape, to achieve an organic relationship between the object and the environment. The achievement of harmony of the environmental form is most conducive to manual modeling, bodily experience and the individual responsibility of the master for matching the search model of the object and the criteria of a harmonious environment.
