Gastrointestinal manifestations of metabolic syndrome
Abstract
The theory of gastroenterological clusters has become one of the new concepts of the metabolic syndrome. The study of the relationship between the metabolic syndrome and some gastrointestinal diseases allows the latter to be considered as diagnostic criteria; however, it is impossible to use the information available in practical medicine, without having a clear understanding of all aspects of the formation of this correlation, which leaves the task unsolved.

Oxidant-antioxidant status in adolescents with recurrent headache
Abstract
The paper presents a study aimed at assessing oxidative stress in adolescents with recurrent headache. The study has revealed higher free radical levels and higher transferrin/ceruloplasmin ratios and, conversely, a lower level of antioxidant protection indicators than in health, which suggests that oxidative stress is activated in all clinical types of primary cephalgia.

Features of tuberculosis in its concurrence with diabetes mellitus and HIV infection
Abstract
A retrospective analysis of the features of the course of tuberculosis in patients (n=830) who had died from the progressive specific process showed that tuberculosis was commonly concurrent with diabetes mellitus (n=102), diabetes mellitus and HIV infection (n=32), and HIV infection (n=562); 134 patients had progressive forms of tuberculosis.

The time course of changes in the mental functions of patients with cerebral stroke according to dose-dependent neurometabolic support
Abstract
It is known that 30-60% of patients with prior cerebral stroke have cognitive disorders that considerably limit patients’ capacities that lead to disability and reduce the effectiveness of rehabilitation. The dose-dependent effect of ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate has been investigated for its impact on the mental functions of patients with cerebral stroke.

Use of native type II collagen as part of the multiagent Gibelli Flex Active
Abstract
The paper reviews studies of the active ingredients of biologically active additive (BAA) in the dietary supplement Gibelli Flex Active. The BAA components have anti-inflammatory, chondroprotective, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory effects in the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis and improve their mobility and quality of life. Gibelli Flex Active has a good safety profile and can be recommended to treat locomotor diseases in patients of any age.

Anosognosia and emotional disorders in the structure of deficit in acute cerebrovascular accident
Abstract
The authors have conducted a comprehensive general psychological and neuropsychological examination and evaluated the severity of neurological motor deficit (using standard scales) in 33 patients with acute ischemic stroke. They present data on the detection rate of emotional, cognitive impairment, and anosognosia in the patients.

Assessment of the therapists’ basic knowledge of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: Results of the ASCO-II project
Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has become a global public health problem in recent decades, being one of the leading causes of death in the world. According to recently published data, the global COPD mortality rate remained virtually unchanged during 1990 to 2010: the average annual number of COPD deaths varies between 3 and 2.8 million [1]. In addition, COPD is the only disease, the deaths from which continue to increase: an average of 5-7 new cases per each 30-45 COPD-related deaths per year [2]. According to the WHO estimates, by 2020, COPD will rank third in the structure of mortality, surpassing all respiratory diseases [3]. This problem is especially urgent for Russia. Severe climatic conditions (in Western and Eastern Siberia), increasing public propensity for tobacco smoking, frequent respiratory infections, and the impact of professional pollutants on the body are the main factors predisposing to the development of COPD. Despite the development of the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (GOLD), the importance of which is difficult to overestimate, there is a clear need for a more in-depth analysis of all aspects of the disease.

Elective surgery: predicting the outcomes of interventions
Abstract
Five types of surgical prognosis were stated after investigating 16 perioperative prognostic criteria. The authors emphasize that the prognostic indicators for high perioperative mortality should be regarded as an incentive for adequate preoperative therapy rather than as an excuse for refusing surgery

The prevalence and risk factors of peptic ulcer disease
Abstract
A clinical examination with interviews was made in a random sample of 945 Krasnodar residents aged over 45 years in order to study the prevalence and risk factors of peptic ulcer disease (PUD). The latter was diagnosed by endoscopy; Helicobacter pylori was determined by enzyme immunoassay detection of serum IgG antibodies

Evaluation of the efficiency of protein-energy malnutrition screening methods in hemodialysis patients
Abstract
The efficiency of protein-energy malnutrition screening methods was evaluated in hemodialysis patients. It is not reasonable to use the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool, the Nutritional Risk Screening, the Nottingham Screening Tool, the Malnutrition Screening Tool, and the Malnutrition Inflammation Score due to their low predictive value.

Doppler ultrasound in the diagnosis of blood loss volume
Abstract
The study of hemodynamic features at the level of the microcirculatory bed during blood loss has shown that the body’s reaction to a decrease in the circulating blood volume is universal regardless of the source of bleeding, but has certain specificity depending on the volume of blood loss.
