Abstract

Introduction. Ensuring optimal consumption of selenium by the population is an urgent task of preventive medicine, the solution of which will prevent the development of many diseases.

Objective: to study the biological role and pharmacological effect of selenium and selenium-containing drugs on the human body.

Material and methods. The analysis and systematization of scientific literature data on the pharmacological effect of selenium and selenium-containing drugs on the human body has been carried out.

Results and discussion. Selenium deficiency is associated with a number of health disorders and an increased risk of death. At the same time, the danger of excessive intake of selenium into the body was noted. It is important to ensure safe compensation for selenium deficiency in the population.

Conclusion. A promising tool for eliminating selenium deficiency is the Russian “SELENBIO for women” complex. It contains organic selenium of plant origin in the form of L-selenocystine, which is effective and safe.
