Challenges and Countermeasures Faced by Chinese Russian-speaking Talents under the Background of the “Belt and Road Initiative”
Abstract
As of January 30, 2021, since the launch of the “Belt and Road Initiative”, more than 171 countries and international organizations have taken part in it, 205 cooperation documents have been signed. In the process of promoting the “Belt and Road Initiative” project, language has always played a fundamental and leading role. Due to the large language differences between the countries along the “Belt and Road Initiative” project, it is very important to establish language service work to advance the construction of the “Belt and Road Initiative” project. Along the route of the One Belt One Road project there are 65 countries, 53 official languages and nine large language families. In the process of promoting the Belt and Road initiative, countries along the “Belt and Road Initiative” project can use English, which currently dominates international discourse, as an intermediary language to communicate with each other. However, for people in many of the countries along the “Belt and Road Initiative” project, English as an intermediary language of ten “can only convey a general meaning, but is unable to express expression, can only state facts, but not reach the heart”. In order to achieve both expression and soulful understanding, we need to use the language that people from countries and ethnic groups the “Belt and Road Initiative” project have the best command, strength in it and use it widely. With 15 countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt using Russian as their official language, lingua franca, widely used language, or language familiar to the majority of the population, the demand for Russian-speaking talent under the “Belt and Road Initiative” project is growing exponentially. Demand growth coexists with challenges and opportunities. Russian-speaking talents should not only seize the opportunity firmly and take advantage of favorable conditions, but also seriously respond to challenges and act on the current situation.
