Drawing as a Universal of Culture
Sevostyanov D.
摘要

A drawing which acts as the basis of any pictorial activity has characteristic properties that allow it to be considered as one of the universals of culture. The article reveals the peculiarities of this category of cultural phenomena basing on the works of J.P. Murdoch, M.I. Bilalov and other scholars. The author correlates the drawing with other universals of culture, highlighting its key properties such as universality, extracultural origins, phenomenology, historical dynamics, local diversity, interpenetration with cultural phenomena of the same level and high cultural significance for society. The attributive analysis undertaken in the study relies on an evidence base drawn from various spheres of humanitarian knowledge (art history, history, semiotics, cultural studies, etc.).

The interpretation of the concept of “cultural studies” is a debatable topic not only for Russian science, but also for the Anglo-American and German traditions. The authors analyze the specifics of the Russian term “culturology”, the Anglo-American phrase “cultural studies”, as well as two German terms “die Kulturwissenschaft» (singular) and “die Kulturwissenschaften” (plural) in regards of identifying their similarities, distinguishing features and features within the philosophy of language. To achieve this, a detailed cultural and historical reference is given on the emergence and development of cultural studies as a scientific discipline abroad and in the Soviet-Russian research environment, the question of the position of modern Russian cultural studies in socio-humanitarian knowledge is raised. Particular attention is paid to German concepts insufficiently studied in Russia, the terminological difference in their perception, goals and subjects of study is indicated.

Kozlov I.
摘要

Social Democrat F.F. Syromolotov (1877-1949), organizer of the Marxist circle “Ural Union of the Struggle for the Liberation of the Working Class” (1897), left a rich literary and artistic heritage. The article presents an attempt to analyze the revolutionary’s poetic works in the context of his biography. Particular attention is paid to his editorial and publishing activities. Basing on the materials of the hard-to-obtain pre-revolutionary times newspapers (Ural`skaya Zhizn`, Samarskaya Luka, Step`, Pravda, Yuny`j proletarij Urala), the author traces the evolution of the poetic feuilleton genre in F.F. The writer’s interest in memoir literature, the history of the Urals, as well as a special attitude to the poetic (and, more broadly, artistic) word are shown: he believed that poetry should serve a certain practical task, take into account the paraliterature context.

The Pater Noster Cycle of the Bible of Piscator and the Russian Iconography of the Lord’s Prayer in the XVII Century
Zapadalova P.
摘要

The history of illustrating The Lord’s Prayer in Russian art of the second half of the XVIIᵗʰ century is presented in the study for the first time. Dating of the preserved monuments and written sources indicate the absence of works on this topic in Russian monumental painting and icon painting until the 1660s. The Russian Lord’s Prayer iconography was considerably influenced by the Pater Noster engravings cycle performed basing on Maerten van Heemskerck’s drawings and included in the Bible of Piscator. At the early stage of reception of images from the Bible of Piscator by Russian icon painters - in the middle – the third quarter of the XVIIᵗʰ century - the first icon-painting interpretation of this engraved cycle, the icon The Lord’s Prayer from the Moscow church of St. Gregory of Neocaesarea (State Russian Museum) appeared. Further adaptation of the new plot can be traced in the cathedral paintings of Borisoglebsk and Yaroslavl.

On the Experience of Work with Controversial Content in Libraries in the USA and Russia
Demkina D.
摘要

The introduction of restrictions on access to information is one of the most discussed topics in library practice today. The purpose of the article is to describe some cases of withdrawal of books, as well as a ban on lending certain publications in US school libraries and public libraries of the Russian Federation. The author states that despite the activities of non-governmental organizations that monitor compliance with the First Amendment to the US Constitution and record cases of book censorship, in recent years there has been an increase in the number of cases when documents have been excluded from libraries under public pressure contrary to the provisions of the American Library Association. In Russia, where there are no such organizations, materials from open access can be excluded only by a court decision and in accordance with the current laws in the country.
