This article made an overview of the effects of doxycycline on different semen parameters and male fertility. It provided evidence that doxycycline improves sperm parameters and male fertility in the animal models and in actual clinical practice.

The article discussed the current situation of the provision of outpatient care to children's population in Volgograd, a large centre of the southern Federal region. It provided calculated, staff and the actual rates of the provision of child population with district doctors, pediatricians as well as specialists. It also discussed the problems associated with preventive medical checkups as well as follow-up care of children and adolescents.

We performed a comparative analysis of carbohydrate metabolism in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM 1 type). The actual rate of complications of DM type 1 was elicited. The study revealed unsatisfactory monitoring of DM type 1 as well as the need to seek ways of improving metabolic compensation in these patients.

This article described a technique of making a database according to chemical structure and pharmacological activity of the known glycogenphosphorylase inhibitors as potential agents for treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2.Cluster analysis was carried out with using Tanimoto similarity method and scaffolds of glycogenphosphorylase inhibitor activity were found.

The article presents data on the changes in local oral immune response in elderly patients receiving anti-inflammatory therapy during adaptation to removable laminar dentures. The study showed that elderly patients receiving bischofite-based preparations in combination with titanium glycerosolvate had a significant decline in pro-inflammatory cytokines as compared with patients receiving conventional standard therapy.

To improve the effectiveness of periimplantitis screening, salivary markers of inflammation and osteoresorptive markers obtained from 102 dental implant patients were compared. Additional stratification criteria by risk group were proposed. They included MIP-1a and MMP-8/TIMP-2 measurements.

The article describes clinical and laboratory test values including lipid metabolism, hemostasis and markers for genetic thrombophilia in the study groups. The intergroup analysis indicated that there were statistically significant differences between groups.

An increasing number of studies have examined the relationships between epithelial and stromal cells which play a key role in determining a dedifferentiated phenotype of epithelial tumours. The relationships between epithelial and stromal cells in ductal breast cancer are responsible for its aggressive clinical course, resistance to chemotherapy and varying survival rates depending on tumour cell differentiation. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate morphological characteristics of the discrete loci within the tumour with evidence of anaplasia and the surrounding stroma in ductal breast cancer. The study showed that heterogeneity of ductal breast cancer manifests primarily in sarcoma-like or anaplastic component, in which epithelial-mesenchymal transition occurs. Mesenchymal cells with no stroma are considered to be potential precursors for aggressive cancer.

Comparative analysis revealed significant differences in clinical, morphological and immunohistochemical features of acute appendicitis and chronic abdominal syndrome (HAS) localized in the right iliac region, which enabled us to treat chronic appendicitis as a separate disease entity. This should be considered in the differential diagnosis in patients with HAS in the right iliac fossa.

The analysis included 141 patients aged 60-90 years who underwent 78 hip and 63 knee joint replacements. 12 patients in the early postoperative period were found to have thrombosis of the superficial and deep veins of the lower extremities. 2 out of 12 patients required surgical treatment. To prevent venous thromboembolism, the patients received new thrombolytic agents which have been successfully used in many European clinics. The analysis showed that the likelihood of thrombosis is directly proportional to the duration of surgery and patient's body weight. Blood clotting factors including INR, PTT, thrombin time, prothrombin and fibrinogen as well as the extent of intraoperative blood loss are not suited to predict postoperative thrombotic complications.

We studied the changes in local immune reactions in gingival fluid samples obtained from 40 patients aged 35- 55 years with chronic generalized periodontitis (CGP) and metabolic syndrome (MS) to add membrane plasmapheresis (PA) to standard care. The patients were divided into two groups. The first group received standard treatment. The second group received membrane plasmapheresis in addition to standard therapy. The analysis of the local immunogram obtained from patients with chronic generalized periodontitis of moderate severity accompanied by metabolic syndrome showed significant changes in nonspecific immunity. After completing the standard treatment, the immune parameters of the patients in the first group failed to reach the same levels as in the control group, which was accounted for by compromised immunity and especially its local component. Long-term results show that patients in the first group are more likely to develop acute inflammation in the periodontal tissues. In the group of patients where membrane plasmapheresis was used, cellular immunity did not significantly differ from that in the control group.

Using confocal microscopy, we compared histomorphological changes in the cornea of patients following unilateral LASIK. The obtained findings allow us to evaluate life-time changes which occur at some time after excimer laser surgery.

Diabetic patients with hypertension accompanied by chronic kidney disease have a markedly rigid heart rate. These changes in the heart rate reflect progressive deterioration of the autonomic balance and diabetic autonomic cardiac neuropathy and a high risk of cardiovascular complications.

The experiment on 60 Wistar line rats of both sexes was conducted to perform a comparative analysis of the effect of the administration of the new derivative of diazinon encoded as PYaTd1 and the drug of dapsone on the peripheral blood hemogram and platelet parameters. The obtained findings demonstrated that the course administration of the drug of dapsone had a toxic effect on hematologic parameters of peripheral blood, morphological and functional characteristics of red blood cells and megakaryocytopoiesis in rats of both sexes, whereas when the PYaTd1 compound was administered these adverse effects were registered, which makes its further development promising.

The authors found that air pollution in cities with iron and steel works as well as coke chemical industry has a negative effect on central hemodynamics which is reflective of the functional state of the cardiovascular system in schoolchildren. The authors provide some recommendations for the prevention of negative effects of air pollution on central hemodynamics in schoolchildren.
