TRADITIONS AND INNOVATIONS IN SCHOOL LITERARY EDUCATION IN EUROPE

Getmanskaya E.V.

Abstract

The topic of the article is the main problems of the functioning of fiction in secondary school, the traditional interpretation of the educational function of literature for the European paradigm, the representation of the literary canon in the European school, the educational context of the concepts "literature"and " reader". Reading fiction at school remains not only at the center of European curricula, but also at the center of the entire cultural and socio-educational European discourse, and, above all, because of the importance of this subject in the process of forming the personality of the younger reader. In the document regulating the language policy in the European Union (Language Policy Division, 2009), fiction is considered as a factor contributing to the development of personality. Personality formation is a generally recognized function of reading literature, it contributes to the formation of moral attitudes and social values, the document says. A number of researchers call such views on literature moralistic (Witte, Maslowski Pike, etc.). Other educational scientists go further in assessing the moral impact of literature on the adolescent reader and consider it as a way of learning about religion and as support for the reader in accepting certain religious values (Iseghem, Collins). Lewis and Petrone connect the process of forming the identity of a teenage hero, reflected in a literary work, and the construction of the identity of a teenage reader. They note that teenage readers are more willing to read literature that reflects the stage of life at which they themselves are. The main function of literature focused on the reader - pleasure - is perhaps the most obvious in European pedagogy. Soetaert and Felski believe that literary education, first of all, should stimulate the pleasure of reading; the magical effect of fiction is its main purpose.

THE WOOD-SPIRIT CODE OF THE POETIC CYCLE “RURAL IMPRESSIONS AND SKETCHES” IN A.M. ZHEMCHUZHNIKOV’S RUSSIAN COSMO-PSYCHO-LOGOS

Dudareva M.A., Morozova S.M.

Abstract

The object of the article is the wood-spirit code in the Russian verbal culture. The subject is the symbolic meaning of a sallow, willow in the Russian folklore and literature. The material for the article is the poetic heritage of A.M. Zhemchuzhnikov whose 200th jubilee we celebrate this year. The ethos of life and death in the poet’s lyrics yields to hermeneutic reconstruction. Special attention is paid to the poetic cycle “Rural impressions and sketches” with its images of a sallow or a sallow alley - the dendronyms analysed closely as a system. The methodology of the research centres on holistic ontohermeneutical analysis aimed at highlighting the apophatic paradigm of the given literary material. Parallels with the Russian folklore, lullabies and children’s games are drawn. The results lie in identification of the cultural potential of dendronyms, in particular the sallow, willow, osier, that have a different-worldly semantics and act as a means of conveying initiatory transmissions in the verbal culture. The work results can also be used in teaching courses on the Russian culture, 19th-century poetry and philosophy.

GOTTFRIED KELLER ABOUT HEINRICH HEINE (PHARMACIST OF CHAMOUNIX)

Bakalov A.S.

Abstract

The article gives an idea of ambivalent relation of Swizz writer Gottfried Keller to Heinrich Heine as person and poet. The object of the analyzes is Keller’s big poem “Der Apotheker von Chamounix”, containing both parody on the habits and features of Heine’s artificial world and respect to his person and sympathy for his suffering as well. The matter of satiric derisions is in Keller’s poem the last cycle of Heine’s ballades “Romancero”, whose poetic world gave G.Keller reasons for the parody against some features of Heine’s artificial world. Keller’s satiric poem is divided into two parts with different functions and unlike plots. In the first of them is presented the love triangle between inhabitants of a Swiss settlement Chamounix, everybody of which perished in an implausible death with following transition into the life beyond the grave. The main character of the second part of Keller’s poem are the poet H.Heine himself and figures of his dead literary teachers and opponents, whom Heine encounters during his visit in the paradise. In contradiction to Heine’s antagonists Platen and Börne, both great educators Goethe and Lessing show their sympathy to “Romancero”’s author. The poet Keller mocks over Heine as a figure and the author, but sympathizes with him as a great poet and estimated person. The second part of the poem is connected with the first one only by the figure of the girl Klara from Chamounix, who became in the second part free from her lover sins and left now her place in the purgatory for the “catholic” poet H.Heine.

THE IRISH TALE BY SIDNEY OWENSON

Bakalov A.S., Erofeeva N.E., Kipnes L.V., Malchenko T.V.

Abstract

The article for the first time considers the "Irish fairy tale" by S. Owenson as the kind of a literary fairy tale that has its own ideological-thematic specifics. The authors show that the novelist had a peculiar perception of the historical chronotope. She constantly talked about the present with an "eye" on the past, designated certain thesaurus keys in the form of an ancient legend, the Irish people, the names and surnames of the representatives of famous Irish clans. In the fairy-tale novels by Owenson a specific "Irish world" was formed as the world based on a national tradition based on Irish history, on historical reality in legends and fairy tales. In all the novels, the author introduces the reader to the world of legend, linking the heroic past of Ireland with the humiliated present of its indigenous population and not forgetting about the elements of the fantastic author's speculation "relying" for fairy tales. The thesaurus "freedom" becomes central to the aesthetics of the novelist, who seeks to understand her contemporaries through a historical cross-section, to show the world of the Irish people as a world full of goodness, peace, and loyalty to national traditions. The novel "The Wild Irish Girl: a National tale" (1806) is about it. The authors of the article for the first time acquaint the domestic reader with the fairy-tale novels "O'Donnell: a National Tale" (1814), "The O'Briens and the O'Flaherty: A National Tale” (1827) showing the real life of the Irish peasantry. The article contains the analysis of the novel "Florence Macarthy: an Irish Tale" (1818), which reflected the contradictions in the author's views and her doubts in the strength of the Irish spirit. The material of the Irish fairy-tale novels by S. Owenson is relevant, because it still raises socio-political questions concerning the independence of the Irish people and opens up for the researchers an undeservedly forgotten name of the famous Anglo-Irish authoress of the first half of the XIX century.

“THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE PRESENT INTRIGUES OF THE COURT OF CARAMANIA” BY E. HAYWOOD

Buranok O.M., Erofeeva N.E., Kazakova I.B., Sizova O.V.

Abstract

The article examines the works of E. Haywood, as the author of novels, the publisher of three women's magazines that laid the groundwork for the culture of women's creativity in English literature of the XVIII century. Her name is called among the first authors of a women's novel, which is still interpreted from a gender perspective in modern science as a socio-cultural phenomenon that represents the world through the eyes of women. Nevertheless, the authors of the article note the serious influence of men's literature on the work of the writer who was passionate about politics and social reforms. Special attention is paid to such genre modification of the novel as "secret histories", the predecessor of "the novel with the key". It is noted that what is new in "secret histories" is the shift in the angle of perception of the text itself, filled with facts about certain historical events and people, which were taken from various kinds of insinuations, as a rule, it had nothing to do with the real history, but attracted the reader with their variations in the relationships of the characters. Slander becomes the subject of the depiction, and its possessors represent heroes (antiheroes) through the prism of the certain moral values, including the state ones. For the first time in Russian literary criticism, the authors acquaint the reader to the "secret histories" of E. Haywood, novels “The Secret History of the Present Intrigues of the Court of Caramania”(1726), “Memories of a Certain Island Adjacent to the Kingdom of Utopia” (1725 - 26), “The Advantures of Eovaai, Princess of Ijavea; a pre-Adamitical History” (1736) in the context of women's prose in England in the XVIII century. The analysis of the novel “The Secret History of the Present Intrigues of the Court of Caramania” as the most vivid example of the "secret histories" by E. Haywood is offered. The material of the article will be of interest to the specialists, as well as to those who are interested in the development of the female genre of the novel in the literature of England during the Enlightenment.

Golubtsova A.S.

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the narrative structure of the novel «Leonardo's Handwriting» by the modern writer Dina Rubina. It examines the basic concepts of narratology (author, narrator, subject of speech, etc.) based on the works of B.O.Korman, V. Schmid. Scientific novelty lies in the analysis and definition of the functions of a complex system of narrative units in the text which is studied. The novel "Leonardo's Handwriting" is characterized by different ways of organizing the narrative space, each of which performs an important function for the perception of the novel. The author of the article classifies the chapters of the novel in terms of their narrative structure, analyzes individual episodes of the novel in which narrators are identified, reveals cases of intersection of narrators in a narrow narrative space and events that are considered from the point of view of different narrators. As a result of the study, it was determined that the narrative structure of Dina Rubina's novel «Leonardo's Handwriting» is complex and polyphonic, which allows performing many functions that are important for a work of art (revealing characters, indicating the concept of the novel, etc.).

MINUS-RECEPTION AS A METHOD FOR SIMULATING «HISTORICAL TRAUMA» IN THE STORY OF F. GORENSHTEIN "OLD WOMAN"

Zolotenkova A.A., Perepyolkin M.A.

Abstract

The article presents an attempt to read the story "The Old Woman" by F. Gorenstein as an example of the implementation of the principle of significant absence. The principle of significant absence is considered as one of the main ones for the work of F. Gorenstein. In this story, it finds expression through the modeling of "minus-time", the withdrawal into which turns out to be a marker of the historical trauma that the heroines are experiencing. After examining the story of the "Old Woman" from this point of view, conclusions were drawn about the participation of the minus method in the formation of the category of non-being within the story.

FEATURES OF SENTIMENTALISM IN THE PASTORAL NOVEL OF WILLIAM GODWIN "IMOGEN"

Seregina M.A.

Abstract

The subject of the article is the peculiarities of sentimentalism in one of W. Godwin's early novels "Imogen". The author comes to the conclusion that, relying on the traditional understanding of sentimental pastoralism (the leading role of nature in the "bucolic" or "Georgian" understanding, the use of a pastoral chronotope, idealization of the pastoral lifestyle, the depiction of platonic feelings between heroes, the presence of pastoral conflicts), W. Godwin uses these features as a background to illustrate his socio-political ideas. He widely uses the technique of contrast, building a system of conflicts on its basis, complicates the nature of the characters and the relationships between them, making them more contradictory, and experiments with style and genre canons. As a result, the originality of the author's perception of sentimentalism in the pastoral novel "Imogen" lies in the mixture of typically sentimental features and the author's specific socio-political worldview. In addition, while writing the novel, the writer's style is still in development, which also leaves an imprint on the manifestation of a sentimental basis in the work.

The narrator's play with the point of view forms a special type of «unreliable» narrator, which allows the author not only to create an experimental narrative, but also to raise the philosophical problems of memory, self-identification, and consciousness.

Cherkasova V.V.

Abstract

Тhis article gives a general description of the unfinished dramatic works of I. S. Turgenev, and defines their problems. The author comes to the conclusion that among the unfinished scenes and comedies there were three ideas: "The Bridegroom", "Companion-ka" and "No. 17"; three beginnings of the work - "The Temptations of St. Anthony", "Two Sisters" and "Party". The pies "The Groom", "The Companion" and "No. 17" were started in the same period, in the spring of 1850. They are deliberately unfinished by the author. "The Companion" will soon be absorbed by the concept of "Own Master's Office" and the novel "Two Generations", and the plays "The Groom" and "No. 17" were supplanted by the play "A Month in the Country". The play "Party" was also supplanted by the play "The Bachelor". I.S. For a long time Turgenev tried to sit down at the play "Two Sisters", promising A.A. Kraevsky wrote the work on time, but deliberately left it unfinished. To the play "The Temptations of St. Anthony" by I.S. Turgenev thought to return when he was writing the preface to the translation about the Temptation by G. Flaubert, but the version of the manuscript did not reach us, that is, it remained deliberately unfinished.
